The combined study of agglutination, hemolysis and erythrophagocytosis, with special reference to acquired hemolytic anemia.
B/J .JAMES A. Boxxix AND LAWRENCE SCHWARTZ S OME SEVENTY YEARS AGO, Ehrlich,’ in 1881, first described erythrophagocytosis in a case of paroxysmal hemoglobinuria. Since thets his observations of in vivo erythrophagocytosis in the peripheral blood have been confirmed and extended by numerous other investigators. Without attempting an exhaustive review of the literature, some of the conditions it...

Donor-derived red blood cell antibodies and immune hemolysis after allogeneic bone marrow transplantation.
Six cases of immune hemolytic anemia attributed to donor-derived red cell antibodies after allogeneic bone marrow transplantation (BMT) are reported. In 2/6 cases, severe intravascular hemolysis was seen, 6/6 required increased red cell transfusion, and 1/6 was treated by plasma exchange. All recipients were receiving cyclosporine to prevent graft-v-host disease. Investigations showed that in e...

متن کاملOxidative Hemolysis and Precipitation
The propensity of certain chemicals and drugs to induce hemolytic anemias has been a subject of much interest for almost a century (1-4). The majority of substances so active are aromatic compounds containing amino-, nitro-, or hydroxy groups, although a number of inorganic compounds (e.g., hydroxylamines, nitrates, nitrites and chlorates) are also active (1-4). Such compounds usually cause red...
